Welcome to the homepage of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security.

Since 1963, as a research institute directly affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, IFANS has functioned as a center for ideas on diplomacy and a focal point for the training of elite diplomats.

As a "think-tank" for foreign affairs and national security, our institute offers policy recommendations and long-term visions for the ministry while building a network with various institutes from major countries through active academic exchange. In addition, IFANS produces highly-skilled diplomats by providing a variety of training courses, including overseas training programs. "Global Leadership," an international relations program that opened in 2008 for high-ranking officials from different ministries, is a new development in the institute's educational activities. Furthermore, IFANS has institutionalized a global-standard "Diplomatic Competency Assessment" to meet the needs of the present situation which calls for highly-trained and skilled diplomats and foreign service officers.                

IFANS will continue to strengthen its research functions in order to enhance "creative and pragmatic diplomacy" for the realization of a  "Global Korea," and will further train human resources well-suited for diplomatic work in the era of globalization.
