    - Enhancing the abilities of Foreign Service Officers by offering professional courses to meet specific job requirements.
    - Sharpening negotiation skills in bilateral as well as multilateral conferences
    - Improving foreign language proficiency

    • Basic Course for Junior Diplomatsd-career Diplomats
    • Newly recruited officers undertake three to six months of training called, “The Basic Course for Junior Diplomats.” This course emphasizes professional studies, job training, English skills and other second foreign languages. It also offers classes such as International Law, International Relations, International Economy, Regional Studies, and Negotiation Skills. The primary purpose of this course is to enhance the abilities of newly recruited officers as diplomats.

    • Global Leadership Program
    • To meet the demands of globalization within the public sector, IFANS has recently launched the “Global Leadership Program”. High-ranking government officials and public enterprise staff participate in order to become specialists in international relations.
The program covers theoretical training in such areas as security, international organizations and trade. It also acknowledges the importance of practical training by providing the members with various opportunities to attend seminars, join workshops, and visit historic sites or NGOs.
This program will help Korea’s future leaders in public areas to cope with the competitive international situation, and enhance cooperation among government agencies. Upon completing the course, the participants will be top quality leaders that can further national interests, and take pioneering roles in the global community.

    • Overseas Training Program
    • The Overseas Training Program consists of basic overseas training courses and specialty training courses (including policy training courses). The basic oversea training courses focus on increasing the foreign language proficiency of newly recruited junior officers. The junior officers spend one year in the United States or the United Kingdom for English, and the following year in other countries for second foreign training such as Japanese, Chinese, French, German, Russian and Spanish. Officers attend degree programs of language courses at universities of language institutes. The specialty training courses aim at enhancing specialization in a certain area of each mid-career officer.

    • Courses for Mid-career and Senior Diplomats
    • Courses for mid-career and senior diplomats are conducted through various in-service programs offered at IFANS. The Institute offers courses such as “The Art and Skills of Negotiation” and “International Conference Simulation” in order for mid-career diplomats to deepen their knowledge and sharpen their negotiation skills.
Since 2006, IFANS has introduced “The Course for Career Development Path (CDP)” which encourages senior diplomats to enhance their expertise. The Course for CDP offers lectures relevant to each diplomat’s professional field.

    • Courses on Globalization
    • In tune with the rapidly advancing wave of globalization, IFANS provides several programs to officials of various government agencies and private organizations. The “International Conference Specialist Course” and “Protocol Training Course” are among the programs which have been well received by participants. IFANS also dispatches its honorary professors to universities and schools all over the country to conduct the “International Relations Education Program for Youth” and holds the “MOFAT Camp for College Students” during the summer and winter vacations.

    • Foreign Language Courses
    • Foreign language courses are organized to enhance foreign language proficiency for junior and mid-career officers. The main languages taught at the Institute are English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Russian.

    • Cyber Education Courses

This allows diplomats who are posted anywhere in the world to access a long-distance learning system that is available 24-hours a day.
IFANS continues to develop and enhance its on-line education programs in order to strengthen diplomat’s skills and increase their knowledge.
