Expert Roundtable on the Middle East’s Political Landscape Upload Date 2021-04-27 Hits 2367
On April 27, 2021, the Department of African and Middle Eastern Studies of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy invited outsides experts to hold a roundtable on the topic of “China’s Growing Presence in the Middle East: Recent Developments, Strategies and Implications.”
 

Participants shared their perspectives on China’s Belt and Road project in the Middle East and how China is making inroads into the region; Saudi Arabia and Iran’s changing perceptions towards China; and how Korea should shape its policy toward the Middle East amid China’s growing presence in the region.

Outside participants included: HK Research Professor KOO Gi Yeon of Seoul National University; Dr. KIM Byung Ho of Samsung Economic Research Institute; Dr. LEE Kwon Hyung, Head of Africa and the Middle East Team, KIEP; Vice President LEE Na kyung of SK Innovation; Director LEE Ju Yong of the Ministry of National Defense; Professor LEE Changju of Ajou University and many other eminent experts. From the MOFA, Former Consul General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco PARK Joon-yong, Director for Strategic Analysis and Coordination KIM Minsun, Director For Middle East Division Ⅱ KIM Sunghoon and Second Secretary Shon Sungwon were present. From the IFANS side, IFANS President OH Youngju, Director-General IN Namsik, Professor KIM Dong Suk, Research Professor CHOI Jin baek; Researcher LEE Jieun and HAN Mihee participated.
