Center for ASEAN-Indian Studies: A Roundtable on “Human Rights and Democracy in Myanmar: Directions for the Yoon Suk Yeol Government’s Value Diplomacy” Upload Date 2022-06-27 Hits 1135
One June 27, 2022, Center for ASEAN-Indian Studies of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) organized a roundtable under the theme of “Human Rights and Democracy in Myanmar: Directions for the Yoon Suk Yeol Government’s Value Diplomacy” in collaboration with the National Assembly members, JI Seong-ho (The People Power Party) and PARK Youngsoon (The Democratic Party of Korea).
 
 

The Yoon government has vowed to uphold fundamental values such as democracy, human rights, and rule of law in implementing its foreign policy initiatives in the days ahead. In this regard, the roundtable was organized to explore ideas and constructive ways to put Yoon government’s new value diplomacy into practice, and especially how Seoul should approach to help restore democracy and improve human rights in Myanmar.

KNDA Chancellor HONG Hyun-ik delivered his opening remarks to kick off the seminar, and National Assembly member SIM Sang-jung of the Justice Party gave her congratulatory remarks. With Ambassador LEE Hyuk, the former Secretary-General of the ASEAN-Korea Center as moderator, scholars and experts had in-depth discussions to sketch out a path for the Yoon government’s value diplomacy.

Participants from the KNDA included Chancellor HONG Hyun-ik; Professor CHOE Wongi, Head of Center for ASEAN-Indian Studies; Research Professor CHO Wondeuk; Researchers LEE Sang-hoon and LEE Ha Young.

Outside participants included National Assembly member PARK Youngsoon; Professor PARK Eunhong at Sungkonghoe University; H.E. Ambassador LEE Hyuk, the former Secretary-General of the ASEAN-Korea Center; Professor JANG Jun Young at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies; National Assembly member JI Seong-ho; JoongAng Ilbo international reporter CHAE In-taek; and HK Research Professor CHOI Kyunghee at Seoul National University Asia Center.
