Diplomatic Oral History Collection: The Inter-Korean Basic Agreement and the Joint Declaration of the Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula Upload Date 2022-07-20 Hits 771
On July 20, 2022, Center for Diplomatic History of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) held the first session of the Korean Diplomatic Oral History Project. The session was arranged to collect historical information on the Inter-Korean Basic Agreement and the Joint Declaration of the Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
 
 

The Center invited Former Minister of Unification JEONG Se-hyun who played a significant role in the negotiations that led to the Inter-Korean Basic Agreement and the Joint Declaration of the Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula to capture his personal accounts.

 
 

Participants exchanged views on the efforts made by the two Koreas to reach an agreement during those days, what the high-level officials from the two sides discussed, and then-South Korean government’s diplomacy towards the four major powers surrounding the Korean peninsula around the time when the ROK and DPRK were simultaneously admitted to the United Nations.

 

The list of participants included: Former Minister of Unification JEONG Se-hyun; Professor LEE Dong-Ryul at Dongduk Women’s University; Professor LEE Jungchul at Seoul National University; Professor CHUN Chaesung at Seoul National University; Professor JO Dong Joon at Seoul National University; Research Professor Gwak Seong-woong at Pai Chai University; Assistant Professor KIM Jong Hak, Head of Center for Diplomatic History Studies (IFANS); Research Professor LEE Sang-sook (IFANS); and Researchers CHUNG Jonghyuk and LEE Min Jin (IFANS).
