On November 21, 2022, Center for ASEAN-Indian Studies of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA), the ROK Embassy in Vietnam, and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) jointly held an academic conference to mark the 30th anniversary of bilateral ties between Korea and Vietnam.

Around 500 participants participated in a day-long conference titled “The ROK and Vietnam’s 30-year Relations: Look Back and the Way Forward” to discuss what the two sides have achieved through 30 years of interactions and explore ways to upgrade and advance bilateral ties on multiple fronts. Renowned experts participated in the sessions to present their ideas on an array of topics and joined roundtable discussions to develop deeper insights.

In this opening remarks, KNDA Chancellor HONG Hyun-ik stressed that in the face of an increasingly fragile global political landscape marred by a set of disruptive developments such as the U.S.-China strategic rivalry and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Korea and Vietnam have stronger incentives to bolster bilateral ties and create new partnerships to steer through a highly-contested global environment and promote global peace and prosperity.

In her speech, H.E. Oh Youngju, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam highlighted that strategic collaboration and substantive partnerships will be a key driver of a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries.
