Expert Seminar on “The UNSC’s Mechanism of Decision-making: Toward the Non-permanent Membership of the UNSC for the 2024-25 Term” Upload Date 2021-04-02 Hits 1552
On April 1, 2021, Department of African and Middle Eastern Studies of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) invited experts to hold a seminar on the topic of “The United Nations Security Council (UNSC)’s Mechanism of Decision-making.”
 

At the seminar, IFANS and outside experts presented on and discussed the Republic of Korea’s experiences and lessons learned from its past non-permanent membership of the UNSC (elected twice for the 1996-97 and 2013-14 terms), major issues and dynamics within the UNSC, and the list of the agendas the Korean government could bring to attention of the UNSC.

The list of participants includes: Ambassador KIM Won-soo, former Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General; Professor WOO Byung-won at Yonsei University; Research Fellow LEE Jiseon at Center for International Development Cooperation of Kyung Hee University; Professor CHUNG Jae-kwan at Korea University; and other eminent outside experts; IFANS experts including IFANS President OH Youngju; Director-General IN Nam-sik of Dept. of African and Middle Eastern Studies; Associate Professor KIM Dong-suk, and Researchers LEE Jieun and JEONG Hyeyoung
