Seminar on “U.S.-China Rivalry and Japan’s Diplomacy in the Biden Era” Upload Date 2021-04-14 Hits 3244
On April 9, 2021, Center for Japanese Studies of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KDNA) hosted an expert seminar on the topic of “U.S.-China Rivalry and Japan’s Diplomacy in the Biden Era.” The meeting was arranged to discuss Japan’s diplomatic path forward in the Biden era as the strategic rivalry between Washington and Beijing will continue to be the defining feature of U.S.-China relations under Biden’s presidency. Participants met virtually due to COVID-19, and discussions focused on the future of FOIP and QUAD as well as on how the Korean government should shape its foreign policy in the years ahead.   
 


Following the presentation of Professor KOTANI Tetsuo of Meikai University, panelists including KNDA Professor KIM Hyun-wook, Professor NAM Ki Jeong of Seoul National University, Professor MICHISHITA Narushige of National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Professor SUH Seung-won of Korea University, Professor SOHN Yul of Yonsei University, Professor LEE Jong Won of Waseda University, KNDA Professor and Head of Center for ASEAN-Indian Studies CHOE Wongi shared different ideas and perspectives. The meeting was also attended by many IFANS experts including: President OH Youngju; Professor JO Yanghyeon, Head of Center for Japanese Studies (IFANS); Professor IN Nam-sik; Director-general KIM Yanghee; Research Professor YOON Suk Jung; Researcher YOO Jiseon; Researcher KIM Jin Yung; Researcher KIM Mi Jung; and Researcher CHO Ahra.
