2020 Seoul Academy of International Law Upload Date 2020-11-10 Hits 2092

From October 19 to 30, 2020, Center for International Law at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) held the 2020 Seoul Academy of International Law. This year, participants met virtually due to COVID-19.

This year marks the fifth round of the Seoul Academy of International Law, which was initiated in 2016 by the Center for International Law. 37 participants from 16 countries of the Asia-Pacific region, including diplomats, government officials, legal practitioners, scholars, researchers as well as graduate students attended this year's Academy. Prominent scholars and practitioners in the field of international law gave lectures on a wide array of international issues across East Asia and the global area.

By offering lectures and facilitating discussions on major international law issues including climate change, the law of the sea, dispute settlement, the United Nations and international trial, the 2020 SAIL created opportunities to promote a better understanding of pressing foreign policy issues in the Asia-Pacific region. The 2020 SAIL has also boosted Korea's role as the hub of international law in the region by facilitating the exchange of knowledge between international law experts in East Asia.

Center for International Law plans to open the Seoul Academy of International Law on an annual basis to broaden the knowledge of Korean international law experts and build a strong network of scholars and practitioners in the field of international law in the Asia-Pacific region.
