The 24th IFANS Talks – Book launching event for the publication of “30 Years of ASEAN-Korea Relations”
On November 5, 2019, Center for ASEAN-Indian Studies held an event to celebrate the publication of a new book titled “30 Years of ASEAN-Korea Relations.”
The book, which looks back on three decades of diplomatic relations with ASEAN, was published by KNDA on November 2 to mark the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-Korea Dialogue Relations. The 543-page Korean-language book is divided into three sections and 33 chapters with contributions by 35 people ranging from diplomats sharing firsthand experiencing working on ASEAN relations to former officials and scholars in the field of ASEAN studies.
The book launching event started with KNDA Chancellor KIM Joon Hyung’s opening remarks, and was followed by a brief introduction of the book by KNDA Professor CHOE Wongi, one of the co-editors of the book, who shared with the audience the major themes of the book and the significance of its publication.
The event proceeded with a panel discussion about some of the major milestones and issues in the 30 years development of Korea-ASEAN relations since 1989. The six prominent panelists, who are contributors of individual chapters to the book, actively shared their views and experience with the audience. Panelists include Ambassador Jung Byeong-hoo, Former Vice Foreign Minister CHOI Young-jin, Former Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre KIM Young-sun, Former Korean Ambassador to Thailand CHUNG Hae-moon, Professor KIM Hyun-Chul of Seoul National University and Chairman PARK Sa-Myung of the Korean Institute of Southeast Asian Studies.
