On May 27, 2024 at 14:00~18:00, the Department of International Trade and Economic Security Studies of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) held the 1
st
2024 IFANS Economic Security Diplomacy Forum on the theme of “ROK-U.S.-Japan Cooperation on Emerging Technologies” at KNDA’s Seminar Room (4th floor).
The forum, set against the backdrop of the agreement on cooperation in emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and space during the ROK-U.S.-Japan Summit in August 2023, provided an opportunity for domestic experts to gather opinions on trends in emerging technologies and specific possibilities for trilateral cooperation, and to also review the direction of South Korea's economic security diplomacy.
In Session 1 (AI), Professor CHOI Kyungjin at Gachon University gave a presentation while the discussants included Senior Research Fellow LEE Kwangho at the Science and Technology Policy Institute, Professor BAEK Seoin at Hanyang University, and Director SUN Jooyeon of International Science and Technology Norms Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During Session 2 (space), Professor JUNG Youngjin at the Korea National Defense University was the presenter and the discussants included Senior Researcher SHIN Sangwoo at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Principal Researcher CHOI Youngjun at the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, and Executive Director LEE Joonwon at Hanwha Aerospace.
