Diplomacy “President Syngman Rhee’s Perspective on International Politics” Seminar Series Kick Off Upload Date 2024-06-27 Hits 1087
On June 27, 2024, the Center for Diplomatic History Studies of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) held the first seminar in the series, “President Syngman Rhee’s Perspective on International Politics.”


The seminar, titled “President Syngman Rhee’s Perception of the International Situation and Conception of Diplomatic Independence before Korea’s Liberation,” aimed to:
 
■Expand an understanding of ‘diplomatic independence’ in the Korean independence movement
■Revisit the international political history surrounding the Korean Peninsula during the establishment of the Republic of Korea
■Analyze the impact of President Syngman Rhee’s diplomatic independence movement on the establishment of the ROK government
 

KNDA Chancellor PARK Cheol Hee delivered opening remarks, and Senior Advisor AHN Youngjip to the Center for Diplomatic History Studies moderated the seminar. The main presentation, titled “Syngman Rhee’s Perception of the International Situation and Conception of Diplomatic Independence before Korea’s Liberation: Focusing on Changes in His View of International Politics,” was delivered by Professor LEE Cheol-sun at Pusan National University. Professors KIM Yong-jik at Sungshin Women's University and KIM Myung-sup at Yonsei University discussed the complementary relationship between President Rhee’s realism and idealism, and between diplomatic independence movements and armed independence movements.
