The 1st Korea-China Forum for the Future of Friendship (Track 1.5 Dialogue)

The “Korea-China Forum for the Future of Friendship” was launched after the agreement between the leaders of the two countries to establish a Track 1.5 dialogue during the Korea-China Summit on the sidelines of the G20 Summit on November 15, 2022. This forum is a semi-governmental meeting co-hosted by the Korea National Diplomatic Academy and the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs.
At the closed-door meeting held in Beijing on October 17, 2024, experts from both sides engaged in candid and in-depth discussions under the theme of “Continuing Friendly Cooperation and the Future of Peace and Prosperity.” The main topics of the meeting included:
Developing a mature and stable bilateral relationship based on mutual respect;
Promoting economic and trade cooperation, as well as emerging industries for mutual benefit;
Building trust and enhancing people-to-people exchanges and improving public sentiments by fostering mutual understanding.
From the Korean side, participants included former Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs YOO Il-ho; Chancellor CHOI Hyoung-chan of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy; Deputy Minister for Political Affairs CHUNG Byung-won; former Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the U.S AHN Ho-young; Professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies KANG Joon-young; Distinguished Professor at Seoul National University Kim Byung-yeon; Director of the Institute for Observation of the Chinese Economy PARK Han-jin; Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Management of China Yoo Kwang-jong; Director of the China Institute of the JoongAng Ilbo YOU Sang-chul; Professor at Sogang University LEE Wook-yeon; Professor at Seoul National University JEONG Jong-ho; Professor at Kyung Hee University JOO Jae-woo;, Director-General CHOI Wooseon of the Department of International Security and Unification Studies (IFANS/KNDA); Assistant Professor PYO Na-ri of the Department of Indo-Pacific Studies (IFANS/KNDA); and Researchers PARK MYUNGA and SUH Kyuhyeong (IFANS/KNDA).
