On November 2, 2022, the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) held the 2022 the IFANS Conference on Global Affairs under the theme of “Global Pivotal State: Visions and Strategies.” KNDA Chancellor HONG Hyun-ik delivered his opening remarks, and H.E. PARK Jin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea participated online to deliver his keynote speech. The conference consisted of three sessions.

The theme of the first session was “Global Pivotal State: Visions and Strategies,” and Former Minister of Unification of ROK HYUN In-teak was invited to moderate the session. R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor John MEARSHEIMER of University of Chicago, Professor Emeritus SOEYA Yoshihide of Keio University, Ambassador of the European Union to the ROK Maria CASTILLO FERNANDEZ, Director-General KIM Hyun-wook of the Department of American Studies at IFANS participated as panelists to share their perspectives.
The second session proceeded under the theme of “Economic Cooperation for Co-Prosperity in the Asia-Pacific Region.” With President BARK Taeho at Lee & Ko Global Commerce Institute (GCI) as moderator, IFANS Professor LEE Hyo Young, Former National Security Adviser of India Shivshankar MENON, Former Minister for Trade of ROK YOO Myung-hee, Australian Ambassador to the ROK Catherine RAPER, President SOHN Yul of East Asia Institute shared their ideas on an array of issues.

The third session was held under the theme of “Audacious Initiative for the Peace & Stability in the Korean Peninsula,” and IFANS Professor JUN Bong-geun moderated the session. Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs KIM Gunn of the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Former Vice Minister of Unification of ROK HONG Yang-ho, Former National Security Adviser to the President of ROK CHUN Yungwoo, and Professor Emeritus YOO Ho-Yeol of Korea University joined as panelists to exchanges their views.
